Diver airlifted after blacking out underwater at UK power station

UNITED KINGDOM — A commercial diver working on the new Pembroke power station was airlifted to Derriford Hospital, in Plymouth, on Saturday after he became unconscious while under water.

Milford Haven coastguard received a call from ambulance control at 10.19am saying that the diver was unwell and had briefly become unconscious.

LONDON — Acergy S.A. announced the award of the Block 17/18 GEP Phase 2 Project, a contract valued at approximately $110 million from Total E&P Angola and BP Angola (Block 18) B.V. for the installation of over 70km of 24” pipeline from Block 2, together with the associated jumper, PLET and tie-ins, to the Nearshore / Onshore pipeline in water depths up to 40 metres.

Engineering will commence with immediate effect with offshore installation scheduled to commence in the second quarter of 2010, using Acergy Polaris, Acergy Hawk and Acergy Legend.

Judge delays decision on Eni, Saipem Nigeria bribe deals

MILAN — An Italian judge has put back a decision on a request by Milan prosecutors to bar Italian energy group Eni and its subsidiary Saipem SpA from conducting business with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), an Eni lawyer said on Tuesday.

The expected ruling is part of a probe by Milan prosecutors into bribery allegations related to construction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities in Nigeria.

A Singaporean diver’s body has been found floating near an oil rig, which he was working on, at the Jurong West Anchorage in Tuas, Singapore.

Gerald Chia’s body was found by the Maritime & Port of Authority of Singapore and the Police Coast Guard on Sunday evening, 54 hours after he went missing, reported local media.

MOORESVILLE, NC — A dredging company lost an excavator when it toppled off a barge into Lake Norman two weeks ago. No one was injured and so far no fuel has leaked into the water.

But until the 60,000-pound track hoe — submerged in 88 feet of water — is hauled up and towed safely to shore, all concerns about environmental danger are not over.

The majority of the country’s large marine infrastructure development projects are expected to be completed within the next ten years.
