Diver pulled unconscious from water along Alaskan Way

SEATTTLE — A diver was critically injured Monday after having a problem underwater along the Seattle waterfront.

Seattle Fire Department spokeswoman Dana Vander Houwen said the man was with a diving school group in the water at the Bell Street Marina and experienced some sort of problem while wearing a diving helmet.

Other people in the class called 911 and the man was pulled to shore unconscious after being underwater for about five minutes.

Medics performed CPR for about 20 minutes outside the marina at 2201 Alaskan Way and then rushed the man to Harborview Medical Center where he was in critical condition, Vander Houwen said.

The man was diving in about 40 feet of water, but it was not known what went wrong.

Subsea 7 has been awarded an exclusive 3 year frame agreement contract with Nexen Petroleum U.K. Limited for subsea field development works on all its UK assets.

The contract includes involvement of Subsea 7 at the front end — in concept development and costing, provision of project management, design engineering, procurement, fabrication, right through to installation and commissioning, with the potential to provide inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) services in the future, one of a broad range of products available from Subsea 7’s Life-of-Field Services offering. The two companies will work closely together to ensure alignment and value creation throughout project lifecycles.

Subsea 7 acquires licence for new subsea hot tap technology

Subsea 7 Inc says that its subsidiary Subsea 7 Limited has acquired the exclusive global licence rights for a new subsea hot tap technology, known as Subsea Grouted Tee (SSGT).

The Subsea Grouted Tee technology enables intervention activities to be carried out on high and low pressure subsea pipelines, without the need for major hyperbaric welding operations. Typical intervention scenarios are repairs, valve by-pass/replacements, removal of blockages and branch connections. These activities are frequently performed with the assistance of highly experienced welder divers. Utilising the SSGT presents the opportunity to intervene into pipelines whilst still under pressure, negating the requirement for costly production shutdowns. Further benefits are that SSGT can be deployed by mechanical divers and it eliminates the need for lengthy welding qualification.
