MONROE, LA — Police say two men operating out of a Monroe motel convinced at least 28 people during the last three weeks to pay $345 each for overseas oil-rig jobs.
But the jobs weren’t real, and the pair was stealing victims’ money.
Authorities arrested 42-year-old Henry M. Lunsford and 49-year-old Roy E. Guerrerio, both of Monroe, on Sunday and booked them with multiple counts of felony theft.
Victims of the scheme continued to contact police Monday.
Monroe Police Maj. Don Bartley said the suspects reportedly told victims the $345 was for processing and a medical exam.
