JDR has been awarded a contract by energy company, E.ON, alongside partners the UK Green Investment Bank (GIB), to supply its subsea cabling technology and services for the Rampion Offshore Wind Farm.

The contract, which started in May 2015 and is expected to last 17 months, will see JDR design and manufacture 142 kilometers of 36 kilovolt inter-array cables for the project.

The scope of work also includes the supply of hang-offs, electrical t-connectors, inner cone connectors, cable cleats and a J-tubeless cable protection system specifically designed to optimise installation time and minimise the potential for cable damage during installation and operation.

JDR will pre-commission the entire cabling system from its manufacturing facility in Hartlepool.

David Currie, CEO of JDR, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded a major European offshore wind contract for the Rampion project. We are committed to supporting the growth of the renewable energy industry, and thrilled to be a key supplier for England’s first south coast offshore wind farm. Our clients trust us to deliver reliable technology solutions and our subsea power cables operate successfully in some of the world’s harshest offshore environments. This is another significant step for JDR to be supporting E.ON on their major investment.”

Amber Rudd, Energy Secretary of The Department of Energy and Climate Change, added: “Our offshore wind industry isn’t just generating electricity, it’s generating jobs here in Britain. This is fantastic news, which will bring world-class technical expertise and high-quality jobs and business opportunities to the North East.”
