30 New Jobs to Support Growth at MCS

MCS’ Aberdeen office announced at Subsea 09 today (Wednesday, February 11)  that it is embarking on a major growth strategy to increase its employee base by almost 50% in order to meet a burgeoning 2009 order book and significant anticipated growth across all services.

The leading subsea riser engineering consultancy has reported 30% growth in its Aberdeen operation in 2008, with staff numbers rising to 54. MCS’ total turnover throughout the group grew to 20 million Euro in the same period. Around 30 new positions will be created in Aberdeen in 2009.

MCS is now recruiting across the spectrum of subsea careers from experienced design, project and management engineers through to pipeline team leaders and delivery management consultants as well as aspiring engineers and graduates with a desire to develop new skills.

This growth reflects the significant investment by MCS in the expansion of its integrity management services, strong growth in the core riser engineering capabilities and the creation of a new design service to complement its subsea engineering work.

Tim O’Sullivan of MCS said: “This is an exciting time for MCS as we position ourselves for another year of sustained growth and expansion. As demand in the subsea market increases, MCS has established itself as a leading global player in the subsea engineering and software sector. The ongoing investment we are making in expanding the scope of our service provision underlines the confidence we have in our continued growth prospects.”

Further growth for MCS’ Aberdeen operation will come from its partnership with sister company MSi, a world-leading flow assurance consultancy. MSi, which already has an office in London, will now have a base in Aberdeen at MCS’ offices and work  with MCS’ flow assurance specialists to provide global experience and expertise in this growing specialist area to the local oil and gas market in Aberdeen.

“As operators strive to recover hydrocarbons from more challenging and complex fields with longer subsea-tiebacks, flow assurance becomes a major challenge. Our existing flow assurance capability, coupled with MSi’s global experience and expertise will offer an unrivalled service to the local marketplace and MSi will be recruiting specialists in this area locally.

“Key to our strategy is combining experience, technical and analytical skills with practical knowledge as well as youth, innovation and enthusiasm. In terms of our workforce, we are bucking the trend with 60% in the 21- 30 year old bracket,” added  Mr O’Sullivan.

“This policy is paying big dividends for us and we will be looking to maintain that impetus over the coming months.”

An international subsea engineering company with offices in Rio, Galway, Aberdeen, Houston, Perth, Paris and Kuala Lumpur, MCS currently is subsidiary of international energy services company John Wood Group PLC (“Wood Group”). The company employs over 200 people and provides engineering solutions including subsea integrity management, proprietary software and riser design expertise, across a wide variety of projects worldwide.
