Eidesvik Offshore’s subsidiary Eidesvik Shipping has inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with an undisclosed buyer for the sale of the seismic vessel Viking II.
The seismic vessel, built by Mjellem & Karlsen in 1999, was previously operated by a French seismic contractor CGG.
This announcement confirms earlier speculations that Viking II was believed as one of the vessels in line for CGG’s fleet downsizing to 11 vessels due to reduced activity in the seismic market.
The delivery of the vessel, for which Eidesvik already received a deposit, will take place in Q3/Q4 2015, said the company in today’s Oslo Stock Exchange announcement.
Under CGG, Viking II was used as a multi-streamer, multi-source vessel equipped with integrated geophysical and navigation data acquisition systems and onboard data processing. However, according to Eidesvik the vessel will not be used for seismic work with the new owner.
The company did not disclose the value of the sale, but informed it was close to book value of the vessel.
