Divers recovered meteorite chunk from Chebarkul lake

Huge chunk of what is believed to be largest portion of the Chelyabinsk meteorite was retrieved by divers from Chebarkul Lake near Chelyabinsk, some 930 miles east of Moscow Russia on Wednesday, October 16, 2013. The weight was known to be 570 kilograms prior to breaking. According to experts, certifying that the rock indeed came from outer space may take some time.

The meteor that struck on February 15, 2013 across Southern Urals resulted to injuries of about 1,500 people. The intense heat from the fireball was felt by the observers and the explosion was estimated to be 20-30 times as strong as Hiroshima Atomic bomb incident.
