Chevron looking for interest from customers on Gorgon Project

SEATTLE — In a letter to customers, Chevron Pty Ltd has asked for postential buyers of natural gas from the Gorgon Project to step forward and put their interest in writing.  The Gorgon Project is a gas field development about 130 km of the northwest coast of Australia with about 40 trillion cubic feet of gas, the largest known gas resource in the region.

The Gorgon Project is a joint project between Chevron, ExxonMobil, and Shell.  The timeline for development includes operations to begin around 2011.  The developors are proposing the project will generate about 3,500 direct and indirect jobs and boost GDP for Australia for up to six decades.
